After learning the basics of procedural shading, I wanted to practice a more manual way of texturing a model. I bought an online course on Flipped Normals and started learning how to use Substance Painter.

I wanted to try an alternative to procedural shading
After learning the basics of procedural shading, I wanted to learn how to paint textures in a more artistic and manual way.
Outcome
What I learned
Painting textures is more fun than procedural shading but even 8K maps can be insufficient for extreme close ups. I was also disappointed to learn that using Painter required the model to be UV unwrapped.
